A great reason to visit Alexandroupolis among many others, is a chance to visit the  magnificent museum that is housed in a 1899 neoclassical stone building. Its main purpose is to familiarize the visitor with the folk culture and the customs of the entire Thrace region. The exhibition was organized in such a manner so that one may experience and get a better understanding of the traditional life of Thrace and especially Evros, from the end of the 17^th  century until the beginning of the 20^th century. Among other things, the museum organizes educational programs, creates publications, as well as video and documentary productions. In the museum courtyard there is a cafe and a gift shop.
